Road Reopened After Dearborn Fuel Spill

POSTED: Saturday, January 31, 2009
UPDATED: 10:44 am EST February 1, 2009

The northbound lanes of Telegraph Road between Cherry Hill and Ford roads were closed Saturday morning as crews continue to clean up a hazmat situation.

Dearborn police and fire crews said a tanker truck slid on ice created by a broken water main on Telegraph Road just south of Ford Road and overturned. Fuel was spilled on the roadway and ran off into storm drains.

Crews sprayed the fuel on the road with foam and took several hours to pump fuel out of the drains.

Fire officials said about 100 homes were evacuated for a brief time as a safety precaution.
