UPDATED: 2:50 pm EST March 4, 2009

Wayne State University has teamed up with with award winning producer Larry Meistrich of NEHST Studios and Michigan Production Alliance to host Aspiring Filmmakers Boot Camp this Friday through Sunday. The boot camp was created to give participants an insider's guide to success in the film industry and also to boost interest for Wayne State's new workforce development strategy.

Meistrich will conduct training while offering students critical insights about the future of filmmaking in Michigan and the opportunities for students to get involved and join Michigan's emerging crew and talent infrastructure.

"This boot camp is one of many opportunities for our students to develop the skills they need to secure and be qualified to perform jobs in the feature film industry," said the dean of the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts, Sharon Vasquez. "We continue to look at the new ways of expanding our academic offerings to meet the growing demand for education in this area."

Aspiring Filmmakers Boot Camp will provide students with informative guidelines on how to write, produce, cast, direct and sell their own feature films. Meistrich will discuss how working effectively with movie industry executives, exploring creative marketing, Web distribution and other strategies for students to make a successful entrance into the world of film.

Wayne State has been recognized nationally for its assistance and programs for future actors and filmmakers and in addition to hosting intensive training sessions like the Aspiring Filmmakers Boot Camp, the university is also offering student act workshops and lectures by industry experts, including acclaimed workers from the Screen Actors Guild. Meistrich will also conduct one-on-one pitch sessions for filmmakers and writes who wish to present their best script idea for financing and or production considerations.

The event will be held in Wayne State's State Hall, Room 106. Writers interested in registering for the camp and pitch sessions can visit www.filmboot.com. A special promotional code for a major discount off the price can be attained by calling the Michigan Production Alliance. Wayne State students and members of the MPA are eligible for the discount as well.
