DETROIT -- Detroit police said a 17-year-old was shot after her father and another man fought at a Detroit Coney Island.
Police said the argument happened at the Coney Island on the city's east side around 1:30 a.m.
Officers said two people may have been arguing over a parking space at the restaurant, located at 12701 E. Seven Mile Road and Walthum Road.
After the argument, the driver of one of the vehicles drove away and was followed by the other driver in a Ford SUV, police said.
A few blocks away at Hamburg and Eastwood roads, police said the driver of the Ford SUV fired several shots into the car, striking 17-year-old Octavia Mclawrence in the neck, killing her.
"He was saying, 'Show me the tape because my daughter just got killed,'" said the co-owner of the restaurant who did not want to be identified.
Mclawrence's family told Local 4 she had just received her cosmetology license and was about to graduate high school.
Family members are devastated. Dice Ali is one of Octavia's sisters. "My sister is gone. She's not coming back," said Ali.
Another sister, Shyane Charles, cannot understand the senselessness of the act. "She was everybody's backbone. She was just there for everyone. Now she's gone. It seems to unreal. We don't even know what to do about it," she said.
The shooting is under investigation and the shooter is still on the loose.
Police are looking for a '90s Ford Explorer that is either red, burgundy or orange.
CrimeStoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
Anyone with information should call Detroit police at 313-596-2260 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP.
