YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Michigan State Police are looking for the person or people responsible for hurling bowling bowls and other heavy objects over the M-14 overpass in Eastern Washtenaw County Wednesday morning.
John Barrera, 60, was in his car when it was struck on the left front side by one of the falling bowling balls as he drove east on M-14, said police.
Barrera was not hurt and his car had minor dent damage.
"A couple of more inches and it would have gone through the windsheild, I'm sure, and I would have been injured," Barrera told Local 4 over the phone.
When police arrived after to M-14 and Joy Road around 12:20 a.m. they discovered two 40-pound water softener bags full of salt, a destroyed computer monitor and two bowling balls on the roadway.
MSP collected the evidence and will analyze it for fingerprints.
Investigators said they have responded to reports of teens throwing rocks from the overpass, but never 40-pound bags or bowling balls. Police said this kind of crime involved planning and a vehicle because of the sheer weight of the objects.
MSP said the culprits could be charged with felonious assault and malicious destruction of property.
Anyone with information is asked to call the MSP Ypsilanti Post at 734-482-1211.
