DETROIT -- A 45-year-old Shelby Township mother, who was reported missing by her family last week, returned home Saturday.
Police said Carolyn Dinkel returned home safe Saturday but did not release any more details.
Dinkel’s oldest daughter Rachel Vani and her 11-year-old sister said they had not seen or heard from their mother since April 22, the same day she was laid off from Regency Family Dental in Shelby Township. She had worked there for 15 years.
Dinkel's family said she does have some medical issues. She had a brain tumor removed and has been diagnosed with depression. But her family said she has medication and had never run away before.
Before she returned home, the last person to see Dinkel was an Oakland County sheriff's deputy, who pulled her over for apparently running a red light at about 1:30 a.m. April 23 near Auburn and Rochester roads in Rochester Hills.
"He did write her a ticket and he said then she broke down and said she had lost her job and that her tumor was back," Vani said.
Vani said the deputy followed Dinkel home to make sure she was safe.
"She just pulled it into the driveway and got out and he said she walked into the garage," Vani said.
Vani said her mother apparently took out $1,900 from a bank account the day she went missing, but no activity on her credit cards or cell phone had been detected for days.
