The state scaled back its emergency response to the outbreak now that it has been determined the virus is not severe and is comparable to the seasonal flu.

The state on Wednesday deactivated the Emergency Operations Center and Joint Information Center. The emergency center had been partially activated to monitor the H1N1 outbreak.

State health officials said they will continue to monitor the outbreak and report any new H1N1 cases, but not necessarily probable cases.

Also, the state said in a news release Friday that doctors will only test people with the flu strain if they are at high risk.

"We want people to remain aware and cautious about this particular flu. Our flu season starts again in September, so we don't want this strain to come back with a vengeance," said James McCurtis Jr. with the Michigan Department of Community Health.
