TRENTON, Mich. -- Police are warning women that thieves may be using summer sales as a hunting ground to prey on unsuspecting shoppers.
"More now than ever people are looking for that opportunity as the economy is really taking a hit," said Wyandotte Police Chief Dan Grant.
A group of women were robbed at a mom-to-mom sale at a Trenton church Saturday.
Police said a thief walked into the sale with a case of water and placed it in the kitchen area where some of the women had left their purses.
The thief grabbed a few of the purses and left out the back door.
Victim Jennifer Holt said the purses contained credit cards, bank account numbers, checks, cameras and pictures of their children.
"I feel so violated," said Holt.
Holt said she is afraid because her house keys and address was inside her purse.
Grant said thieves especially prey on block sales because many homeowners are opening their homes and it makes it easy for crooks to move-in-and-out.
People who have garage sales must always remember to keep all doors locked during the sale and hide your garage door opener because often thieves will take the opener and then come back later to rob the home.
