DETROIT -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson was in Detroit Friday to promote fairness in the auto industry.
"We must stand together and fight for fairness within the auto industry. Workers, dealers, and suppliers must not be eliminated for the sake of expediency," said Jackson at the forum.
United Auto Workers, AFSCME workers, Council of Baptist Pastors and other elected officials joined Jackson.
"Towns and cities are built around these industries and are now in jeopardy. We need a new comprehensive industrial policy, a bailout plan that is connected directly to reinvesting in America," said Jackson.
Jackson said changes are also needed in trade policy to level the international playing field for American autoworkers.
