A local resident says a hovercraft came to the rescue of some visitors stranded on an icy lake.
Neighbors surrounding Lake St. Clair told Local 4 that six people were rescued when a van and a pickup truck went through the ice on Anchor Bay around 2:30 a.m. Friday.
No injuries were reported in the incident, but both vehicles remain out on the lake.
Neither of the vehicles were leaking oil, so the car owners decided to leave them in the water until daylight, said one homeowner.
Several neighbors wedged pieces of wood under the back wheels of the van to try to get it out. They plan to hook a cable to the vehicle to drag it out, Local 4 reported.
The pickup truck was stranded further away from shore, and will take more effort, the station reported.
The passengers in the vehicles said they had not been on the ice in some time so they didn't know which areas were frozen.
Officials say the drivers of the vehicles may have to pay for the costs of the rescue mission.
