DETROIT -- Detroit's ex-mayor says his client's up to date -- and even early -- with his monthly restitution payments.
Maria Miller with the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said Kwame Kilpatrick sent a $9,500 check overnight. It represents $3,500 owed from May and $6,000 due June 15.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office last week asked a judge to hold a hearing to determine why Michigan or Texas authorities have not tried to revoke Kilpatrick's probation. The short May payment was one of the reasons.

Kilpatrick is living near Dallas while on probation for obstruction of justice and assault. He owes $1 million to Detroit as a result of a text-message scandal.
Kilpatrick was three days late and $3,500 short on a May restitution payment ordered as part of the criminal case that drove the former Detroit mayor from office, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections.
A message was left before business hours Wednesday with lawyer Michael Alan Schwartz, who represented Kilpatrick in an effort to have his payment toward $1 million in restitution reduced to $6 a month.
A judge in March rejected that request, ordering Kilpatrick to pay $6,000 a month in restitution. Failing to make full payments could lead to Kilpatrick being found in violation of his probation.
Kilpatrick resigned as mayor Sept. 18 and served 99 days in jail for obstruction of justice and assault. He took a sales job in Texas with Covisint, an affiliate of Detroit-based software maker Compuware Corp.
"You've been given a break. Instead of having to spend your time behind bars you've got an opportunity to support your family but you've got to live by the rules," said Detroit attorney David Griem. "
Prosecutors also criticized a request by Kilpatrick to travel to the Middle East last month that wasn't approved.
On May 18, Kilpatrick sought permission to go Dubai, Qatar and Iraq to assess the health care system of the military overseas on a trip including his mother, U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich., Marlan said.
Although it was to be a congressional trip, Marlan said Kilpatrick indicated he would be going as a representative of Compuware.
But Compuware spokeswoman Lisa Elkin said Kilpatrick was not scheduled to go to the Middle East on business.
"You've got him lying to his probation officer, that in and of itself is more than enough to get him another ticket to a jail house," said Griem.
Kilpatrick and his former top aide, Christine Beatty, were charged with perjury and other crimes last year after text messages published by the Free Press contradicted their courtroom denials of an affair.
Beatty, who also pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice, served 69 days in jail.
