DETROIT -- The third annual Red Bull Air Race World Championship is taking place this weekend.
This year's race will be held at the Detroit River Track, featuring a new Qualifying Day on Saturday for all pilots racing for the top 12 session on Race Day, which will be on Sunday. The Detroit Riverfront will be filled with various activities and a Red Bull Air Race Terminal will be featured in the lobby of the GM Renaissance Center with interactive displays, live music, aircraft displays and concession stands for guests as well.

First-timer Pete McLeod, 25, will be the youngest pilot to ever compete in the high-speed, precision flying race accompanied by Yoshihide Muroya from Japan, Matt Hall from Australia and Matthias Dolderer from Germany. These four, including the other 11 pilots from last year will demonstrate their piloting skills by flying through challenging twisting race tracks just feet above the Detroit River. The winner will make up the racer with the fastest time and the least number of penalties.
The Red Bull Air Race venue is located adjacent to the Detroit River, east to west along Atwater Street and Rivard Street. There will be several parking areas close to the Renaissance Center located off Beaubien Street between Jefferson Avenue and Atwater Street.
The races kick off Saturday at 11 a.m., with the final race starting Sunday at 1 p.m. Tickets for the Red Bull Air Race weekend are $35 for a two-day general admission pass and can be purchased and printed at home by visiting www.redbullairrace.com.
