Man Drowns In Haas Lake

Police Believe Alcohol Was A Factor In Drowning

POSTED: Monday, June 22, 2009
UPDATED: 8:50 am EDT June 22, 2009

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department recovered the body of a 25-year-old man Sunday evening in Haas Lake.

According to police, the man was visiting some friends at the lake, and the group decided to go for a swim.

The victim complained of being tired. One of his friends looked away momentarily, and when they looked back the man was gone.

The Marine Unit of the Oakland County Sheriff's Department got to the scene within 15 minutes, and searched for an hour before finding the body. Rescuers tried to resuscitate the man, but were unsuccessful.

The water where the man drowned was only nine feet deep. Police believe alcohol may have been a factor.

The man's identity has not been released.
