DETROIT -- The body of a missing 59-year-old Detroit man was found at one of the Detroit properties he owned.
The Detroit police homicide department is investigating the case.
The family of Damian Onwuzuirke had offered a $5,000 reward for his safe return.
Onwuzuirke's family last saw him leaving his Detroit home on the city's Westside on June 15. His family said he left for work Monday morning but never came home.
That same day, Onwuzuirke's daughter text messaged the 59-year-old and he replied, "Can't talk now, at work." His family said that kind of response was normal because he works at Wal-Mart on Ford Road in Dearborn and he generally can't talk at work.
He also responded to his wife's text message a little later in the day.
"I can't even begin to describe what it's like. At this point, if he can come back alive, I don't care what happened while he was gone," Onwuzuirke's wife, Debra had told Local 4 before the gruesome discovery.
Police found Onwuzuirke on the 20000 block of Oakfield as they scoured through the rental property that he owned.
Debra Onwuzuirke said her husband often went to check on the rental property and she had hoped his disappearance didn't have anything to do with the tenants.
"Some problems with some of his tenants," she had said. "People that he owed money to or of that nature."
Onwuzuirke was a retired Ford Motor Co. automotive engineer.
