Farmington Hills Church Burglarized

$6,000 Worth Of Equipment Stolen

POSTED: Monday, June 29, 2009
UPDATED: 9:09 pm EDT June 29, 2009

Lawn maintenance will be a little more difficult for a small Farmington Hills church this summer after thieves broke into the church's shed and stole all the maintenance equipment.

The Rev. Jane Moschenrose Of Wellspring Church said the shed was broken into sometime last week in between cuttings, and it wasn't until Saturday when a member went to cut the grass that they realized more than $6,000 in lawn equipment had been stolen.

Thieves backed a trailer up to the shed and stole two riding mowers, a push mower, two weed wackers, an air compressor and a grill that the church was going to use to feed the homeless in Hamtramck next week, said Moschenrose.

Moschenrose said it is a small church with only 100 members and they do not have the money to replace the equipment.

"We don't know, financially, how we can afford it. We are hoping that someone will see it on TV and catch the people and return our equipment because we just don't have the money to replace it," she said.

Moschenrose said whoever stole the equipment even took the time to check it because there was a broken lawn mower in the mix, and that was left behind.

For now, the congregation will pull together and take turns using member's push mowers to cut the grass.

"In this day and age we have to help each other not hurt each other in order to make it through this time," Moschenrose said.

Jane said she hopes whomever stole the equipment will put it to good use and eventually pay the church back.

She had this message to the thieves,"If you needed this equipment to start a new business, than when you earn enough money to replace the equipment, please do so."

Moschenrose said a man has since offered up his grill so they can continue to help feed the needy and possibly have a fundraiser for the church.
