REDFORD, Mich. -- Employees in the Redford Union School District noticed a problem Tuesday with a mailing they received telling them about a new dental coverage plan.
The envelopes that contained the information had the social security numbers of 400 employees listed on the address labels, where the zip codes should have been. The envelopes were delivered to the right locations, however, because the post office goes by the zip code running along the bottom of the envelope.
“This is an violation of people's privacy and their security,” said Steve Losey, president of the Redford Union Education Association.
According to the Losey, the district is being dismissive about the situation.
The district said the dental coverage carrier, ADN, is to blame for the mistake. They met with representatives of ADN Thursday.
According to the superintendent, ADN does plan to offer help, "The company has promised six months of fraud alert protection for all of our employees and they apologized. It was a human error," Donna Rhodes, school superintendent.
The district is sending out emails, as well as a letter in the mail to let employees know about the situation and the help that is available to them.
