ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- A Michigan man convicted of raping and murdering his neighbor is headed to prison for the rest of his life.
A Washtenaw County judge Thursday sentenced 32-year-old Derrick Oliver to a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole.
The Ann Arbor News reports a jury convicted Oliver last month of felony murder, first-degree criminal sexual conduct and larceny in the February slaying of Lindsay Graygo.
Prosecutors said the 29-year-old Graygo was found strangled and nearly naked in the bathtub of her Ypsilanti Township apartment. Oliver lived in the same building, Lake Shore Apartments off Grove Road, and his DNA was found under Graygo's fingernails.
Defense attorney Anthony Chambers argued at trial for acquittal, saying another man's DNA also was found on Graygo's body.
Police said they believe Graygo willingly let her killer into her home because there was no sign of forced entry.
Graygo recently moved from Erie Pennsylvania to Ypsilanti take a job at Splash Mountain in Dundee.
