1st winter chill hits Detroit

DETROIT – Temperatures like the one's being seen in Detroit happen often in Michigan this time of year, but it's still a shock to the system when the temperatures drop below freezing for the first time.

It just wouldn't be the holidays in the D without the cold temperatures, the glow of the lights and the fun on the skating rink.

Saturday night some brave souls bundled up for a good time out in the cold at Campus Martius.

Tiffany Suarez, who works at Holiday Marketplace, used a shower curtain to help shield herself from the cold.

"I just want to go curl up in bed," Suarez said.

Suarez may have had a roof over her head at the Campus Martius Holiday Marketplace, but it takes a lot more than a shower curtain to cut through Detroit's first frigid night.

Amidst the freezing cold weather, Lindsey Robinson didn't hardly notice. Her boyfriend proposed right by the ice rink at Campus Martius.

"My wonderful boy friend proposed!" Robinson said.

And even with the cold air, one of the coolest things to do downtown is to take a carriage ride.

"I really enjoy being out here," said carriage driver Denise. "It's beautiful - Christmas in the city."
