Fire at closed Redford High School broke out Thursday morning

DETROIT – 2 firefighters were hurt Thursday morning while battling a fire at the old Redford High School on Detroit's west side at 6 Mile and Grand River.

One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion, the other for a knee injury. The seriousness of the knee injury has not been released.

Lt. Gerod Funderburg told Local 4, "Fighting any kind of fire in this kind of heat - we have to make sure we keep hydrating ourselves. Thank God we are firefighters and do have water on the scene so we are able to cool ourselves off a little bit. There's really not much you can do."

The two-alarm fire broke out just before 10 a.m.

The fire was contained to the second and third floors of the building. The second floor of the old Redford High School is the old gymnasium.

There is no what on what started the 2 alarm fire at the abandoned Detroit school.
