2 armed robberies reported in Grosse Pointes

Police believe robberies in Grosse Pointe Park, Farms are connected

GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. – Police are working to see if the armed robberies are connected. Both happened on Sunday just minutes apart.

It happened too close to home for Rebecca Popkie.

"I feel very safe in my neighborhood. I have grown up here. I have lived here my whole life. So I have never had any scare," she said.

Two armed men targeted someone in a Grosse Pointe Park neighborhood on Sunday at Lakepointe and St. Paul. They took off with the victim's money, iPhone and wedding ring.

"I try to do what I can but with things like that you never know what could happen. It's kind of scary," said Popkie.

Minutes before that robbery, over in Grosse Pointe Farms at Mack and Manor, another person was robbed by two armed men. Neighbors know no place is safe from crime.

"Well it's certainly not the first time that something like this has occurred, but it's something to be aware of. You got to pay attention to what's going on in your neighborhood because that's what it's all about," said Dave Letscher, of Grosse Pointe Farms.

Police believe both of those cases could be connected. The victims describe the suspects as black males wearing all dark clothing and hats. The vehicle description of the two robberies do not match.
However, investigators say the car used in the first robbery could have been ditched before the second one.

Over at The Jagged Fork restaurant, the owners believe police will find the men responsible soon.

"You know you are in good hands. They are like the best people. They come in here all the time and you get to know them and you know that they are out looking out for the community," said Frances Adamopoulo, of The Jagged Fork.
