YORK TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Two people arrested in connection with the deadly stabbings at a York Township home last weekend have been arraigned on charges.
Joseph Hall, 25, of Dundee, and 34-year-old Jesse Spurlock, of Monroe, were taken into custody Thursday. Hall is charged with two counts of open murder, three counts of assault with intent to murder and home invasion first degree. Spurlock faces two open murder charges and a home invasion first degree charge.
They were arraigned Friday afternoon and are being held at the Washtenaw County Jail. Hall spoke during his arraignment.
"To the family and everyone that knew James Porter, I knew him myself. I'm sorry, from the depths of my heart," he said. "I know I can't take it back, but in a heartbeat I would trade places and lives with any of the people. I don't know what happened. I snapped and I am sorry."
James Porter, who is one of the victims, is also known as Jeff Porter. He was in court Friday.
A friend of the victim's family told Local 4 Hall's statement made her sick to her stomach.
What happened:
Timber Brown, 12, and John Brown, 26, were killed Saturday when they were attacked at a home on Crane Road near Stony Creek Road.
Timber Brown's mother, Vicki Moore, 31, and the home's 39-year-old owner, James Porter, were critically hurt in the attack. A third adult woman, Moore's friend, suffered minor injuries. Moore remains in critical condition at a hospital. She is sedated and on a ventilator.
Family members said Moore and her friend were taking their children to a weekend race at Michigan International Speedway and had planned on camping. But because of heavy rains, they decided to stay at the home on Crane Road. Moore's friend knew someone who lived at the home.
Family members told Local 4 that Moore had more than 14 stab wounds and lacerations, a collapsed lung and received 21 pints of blood. They said she was critically injured while protecting her son.
Moore's friend's two daughters who were also in the home were not hurt.
