2 critically injured after driving car into back of semi truck

Police say alcohol appears to have been a factor

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Two people are in critical condition Saturday after the car they were in drove into the back of a semi truck on southbound Mound Road north of 14 Mile Road at 1:49 a.m., police say.

The driver, a 27-year-old woman from Warren, and her passenger, a 30-year-old man from Detroit, were transported to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital.

Police say the two were driving a silver Nissan in the center lane of Mound Road when it hit the truck from behind. The truck had just started moving after waiting at a stoplight south of Foss Street when it was hit, according to authorities.

Police closed southbound Mound Road to investigate the crash, but it reopened at around 6:30 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, officers found the Nissan underneath the trailer of the semi truck.

Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash, police say.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information is asked to call Sterling Heights police at 586-446-2920.
