BIRMINGHAM, Mich. -

Just like after Christmas sales, there’s after Christmas break-ins.

Birmingham police confirm two different families returned to their homes after the holiday to find them ransacked.

The homes are on Dorchester, which is near Maple and Coolidge.

Police said they think the break-ins happened sometime between Christmas Eve to the day after Christmas.

The burglars may have attracted to the area by the various home improvement work sites. There’s lots of builders and contractor trucks.

One worker had an expensive piece of equipment stolen.

Construction worker Brian Stone said he can’t afford to have his tools taken and the guys working at his site saw a black Chevy pickup truck in the area around the time the tool was stolen and the homes were broken into.

Police also warn about putting out gift boxes or any other packaging that could advertise that valuables are in the house.

Police recommend asking neighbors to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity.
