Two Olympic-sized pools and a bath house are being reopened at Detroit's Rouge Park as part of a $5.5 million renovation project.
Mayor Mike Duggan was joined Wednesday afternoon by former Mayor Dave Bing, state officials and representatives of auto parts supplier Lear Corp.
Republican state House Speaker Jase Bolger and Democratic state Rep. Harvey Santana of Detroit took a "pool plunge" to celebrate the reopening (pictured above).
The pools and bath house at Rouge Park haven't been used in years.
The $5.5 million renovation project was made possible by donations from the Detroit Recreation Foundation, funding from the City of Detroit and a grant from the State of Michigan. It's part of a broader effort to improve Detroit parks.
