2 Washtenaw County homes robbed with owners out of town

WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – Washtenaw County police say two homes in the Walnut Hill neighborhood were robbed in the last three to five days with the homeowners out of town.

Police say that if you are going to be out of town, you may want to request a House Watch of your home by the sheriff's office while you are away. You can do this on their official website.

Police advise you to take the following steps to protect your home:

  • Prune your shrubs 
  • Draw the blinds 
  • Don't advertise new purchases 
  • Get motion sensors for lights 
  • Set timers for indoor lights 
  • Reinforce strike plate on doors 
  • Shield windows near doors 
  • Install deadbolts 
  • Lock all doors and windows 
  • Install and always set a home alarm 
  • Get a dog 
  • Know your neighbors 
  • Join neighborhood watch
