2 women raped, robbed by group of men on Detroit's west side

DETROIT – Detroit police are looking for a group of men who raped and robbed two women behind a vacant house in a west side neighborhood.

Police said the victims, ages 22 and 33, were walking home from a liquor store on Strathmoor Street just before 11 p.m. Wednesday when four men confronted them at gunpoint. Police said the men took the women's purses and cellphones and then sexually assaulted them.

"They didn't really take anything, they just raped them and violated them," said Lamar Davis, whose cousin is the 33-year-old victim. "They told her if she run, my cousin, the older one, they were going to kill the other one. So, she had no other choice but to stay there with her."

Both victims were treated at a hospital.

Davis said his cousin is a mother of six.

Police said the descriptions of the men they got from the victims were similar: black men in their 20s weighing between 150 and 160 pounds, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, medium complexion. They were all wearing dark clothing.

Hours after the assaults, police arrested one man in connection with the crimes. But no other information on him has been released yet.

Police said they are also investigating other recent group assaults that have happened in the area to see if there are any connections.
