2-year-old child dies in Inkster triple shooting

12-year-old girl in critical condition; 30-year-old man also hurt

INKSTER, Mich. – A 2-year-old child is dead, a 12-year-old girl is in critical condition and a 30-year-old man was also hurt after being shot Tuesday evening in Inkster.

Inkster police and Michigan State Police are investigating the multiple shooting that took place in the 30000 block of Carlyle outside of a housing complex.

"You hear shots. I knew what it was," said witness Justin Pierce. "Fireworks go off here all the time. I can tell they were gunshots."

Investigators tell Local 4 this was a drive-by shooting. Shots were fired out of a vehicle at the people standing outside the complex. Caught in the crossfire were a 2-year-old girl, who sources said was shot in the head, a 12-year-old girl who was shot in her legs and a 30-year-old man who sources said was shot in his stomach.

Pierce ran over to try to save the little girls.

Neighbors left disgusted with many of them watching the crime scene in tears, praying for the children who got caught in the middle of yet another senseless shooting.

"Came around the corner I heard like four, then you see the guy running," said Pierce.

Police say they are looking for one shooter.
