2-year-old girl recovering after being hit in head by brick thrown through car window in Detroit

2 mothers report separate incidents of bricks thrown at cars

DETROIT – A 2-year-old girl who was seriously injured Wednesday when a man threw a brick through a car window and hit her in the head is recovering from a fractured skull.

Police said a man ran out in front of the car at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday at the I-75 Service Drive and Forest in Detroit. He then ran back to the sidewalk, picked up a brick and threw it at the car, police said.

The brick crashed through the rear passenger window and hit Robyn Rivers in the head, police said. She was taken to Children's Hospital in critical condition.

Robyn's mother, Barbara Williams, said there was so much blood she thought her daughter had been shot.

"It was just blood pouring out, I didn't know what it was," Williams said. "I thought they had shot my daughter in her head."

Robyn is now out of surgery and is recovering.

"The doctors say she is doing well and she is strong,"  Williams said. "Very, very strong."

Williams said she wants the rock thrower to know he almost took her baby girl away from her.

"She's all I really have," Williams said.

Another mother shares similar story

Another mother, Brandi Williams, said police would have found the brick thrower and his two friends if they had responded to her 911 call. She said the same man threw a brick at her car near the Service Drive and Canfield, narrowly missing her 2-year-old child.

"I pulled over and confronted the guy," Brandi Williams said.

She said she turned back as the teens were walking back up the drive, but she said police told her to call her insurance.

"'There's nothing we can do because no one was injured,'" Brandi Williams said.

She said she took her children to her work after the incident and turned back around to confront the brick thrower. The men were still in the area, and she said the man apologized to her, took his hooded sweatshirt off and walked away.

Police search for culprit

Police called the act "outrageous."

"What we do want them to know is that we will find you," Detroit police Deputy Chief Renee Hall said.

Police are searching for a skinny, light-skinned 17- to 21-year-old man. He has a fade haircut and a thin mustache and is 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was wearing a red hooded shirt and white pants.
