A husband and wife are dead and two police officers have been assigned to desk duty after an accident on Detroit's East Side.
Investigators say a car and a Detroit police car collided late Thursday afternoon.
Albert Sloan, 85, and Lillie Sloan, 83, of Detroit, were killed in the crash.
A red car was going south on St. Aubin, while the squad car was going eastbound on Lafayette when they collided. The couple's car was broadsided, police say.
Investigators are not sure if it was the red car or the squad car that ran the red light. They will also look into whether the lights and sirens of the police car were on at the time of the accident. That will be determined from an onboard videotape in the squad car, which will be examined.
Police say that officers were not involved in a chase, but were answering a call.
The officers are a man and woman from the 7th Precinct who suffered only minor injuries. They have been assigned to desk duty while the accident is investigated.
The couple, who were residents of Shoreline East condominiums on Jefferson Avenue, died at Detroit Receiving Hospital.
An investigation is continuing.
