DETROIT -- Ann Arbor police are warning residents to be on the lookout after two men, posing as utility workers went to a man's home and stole cash from his room.
Police said a faux utility worker knocked on a man's home on the 3000 block of Williamsburg on Saturday afternoon and said he needed to check "water lines for debris."
The man handed the homeowner a device that looked like a meter reader and told him to wait in the hallway while he checked something, police said.
Another man entered the home and the two men went into the bedroom while the homeowner waited.
The homeowner become suspicious and went into the room and found the men rummaging through his closet. He scared the men off, but then he discovered cash was missing.
One of the men was described as 35 to 40 years old, with a dark complexion, medium build, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with black hair, brown eyes, a mustache and a beard.
The second man was described as the same age, with a light complexion, short hair, 5 feet 8 inches tall, thin and a clean-shaven.
Police said they have not had any other reports of fake utility workers knocking on resident's doors.
