DETROIT -- The Detroit Science Center is celebrating the Day of the Dead holiday this Sunday along with a special exhibition called The Accidental Mummies of Guanajuato.
There will be special performances by Mariachi Fiesta Alegre, pinatas, treat bags and craft activities for children in celebration of the holiday. Visitors wearing a costume will get $3 off adult and $2 off child museum admission.
The Day of the Dead focuses on families and friends gathering together to remember and pray for people close to them who have died. It is a holiday celebrated by Mexican and Latin Americans in the U.S.
The Accidental Mummies of Guanajuato exhibition features 36 accidental mummies of a Mexican city over 100 years ago. The deceased bodies naturally mummified in their crypts. This is the first time the mummies have been out of Mexico. The exhibition provides a unique learning experience for visitors, combining science, history and culture.
Admission for the exhibition is $24.95 for adults, $22.95 for seniors, 60 years and older, and 19.95 for children, ages 2 through 12. Admission to the museum is free with the purchase of an exhibition ticket. To purchase tickets please visit
