DETROIT -- A 17-year-old girl from Warren was killed and three other teens were hurt Friday night in a hit-and-run crash on Detroit's East Side.
Police said the teens were crossing Conner Street near Outer Drive when they were hit by a car.
Kierra Shorter died of massive head trauma and her three friends were hospitalized.
One of the teens suffered a head injury and has been in and out of consciousness, police said.
Police said the other two teens have leg injuries.
The driver of the car left the scene of the accident before police arrived.
The car involved is described as a dark, older model, possibly a sports car, with heavy front-end damage and missing a left side mirror.
"You see it on the news every day and you wonder what those parents are going through. It's still hard for me to say that she's gone," said Roxanne Shorter, Kierra's mother. "She can't talk back. She can't say 'I love you' anymore."
Police hope somebody witnessed the crash and can provide a better description of the car that hit the teens.
"It's just not right. Something is wrong with this world when you leave people on the side of the road to die. I mean, come on now. Somebody has to have a heart. I know somebody got a soul out there," Roxanne Shorter said.
Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
If you would like to help pay for Kierra Shorter's funeral. There is a fund set up at Bank of America. You can go to any location to donate.
