CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A Macomb County painting company said it has been hit by its second major theft in 3 months.
In August, the family-owned JP Painting Company, of Clinton Township, had a major piece of equipment stolen when someone took a $4,000 compressor from an industrial park. Police at the time said it appeared the thieves knew exactly what they were looking for. The compressor has not yet been recovered.
The company suffered another loss Sunday night when one of its trucks was stolen from a parking lot near 15 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue.
Company owner Joe Picciurro said he is crushed and angry.
"The first time was a hit. Now it's another hit. I'm sick. I can't do it anymore. I just can't," Picciurro said.
Picciurro said the theft of the truck is going to hurt the company's business, which has 12 employees.
"This dramatically hurts me, because I have to take another truck out of the field that takes employees to the jobs," Picciurro said.
The hurt is deeper because the truck also held Christmas gifts Picciurro and his wife had just purchased for their children.
"We went Christmas shopping with that truck last night and there were toys for my kids in that truck. So not only does it affect my employees, but it affects me directly and we're devastated," Picciurro said.
Late Monday afternoon, Picciurro was informed the truck was located but had been demolished after a crash in Wayne County.
While police continue to investigate, Picciurro is hoping someone will come forward to help him and his company overcome these losses.
