Lansing, Mich. -- Some Michigan lawmakers are pushing for what could be controversial legislation.
Wednesday, the House Speaker Pro Tempore Pam Byrnes, a Democrat, introduced a bill to amend the state constitution to allow same-sex marriage and recognize same-sex marriages from other states.
Both chambers would have to pass the resolution to place the amendment on the ballot for the 2010 general election.
If the bill doesn't pass, proponents would have to collect more than 380,000 signatures to get the proposal on the ballot.
