PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A driver was injured by a pumpkin thrown from an overpass.
Police said it happened around 3:35 a.m. on Friday near Ridge Road in Plymouth Township.
Hank Kiel said he was inside of his 2007 Ranger, driving home from work on the westbound lanes of M14 and was passing under the overpass when someone threw three pumpkins down.
Two of the pumpkins struck the front end of the truck and the third went through the windshield, striking Kiel.
"I just couldn't understand what was happening, than when I realized that someone had thrown a pumpkin off Ridge Road," said Kiel.
Kiel, 50, was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti where he was treated for cuts around his eyes and a broken cheekbone.
Kiel was released and is recovering at his Hamburg Township home.
Kiel said he is just thankful because his injuries could have been a lot worse.
"I am just glad to be alive. I have no ill feelings toward this person. I am sure they don’t know what they did," said Kiel.
"It's not a joke," said Kiel's wife Cherise. "It's serious and someone could have been killed."
Anyone with information should call the Michigan State Police Metro South Post at 734-287-5000.
