Local Filmmaker's Movie Opens Friday

'Stick It In Detroit' Comedy Filmed Solely In Detroit

It took a Detroit native to capture the positive side and never-say-die spirit of Detroit in a film.

"Stick It in Detroit," is the first film made entirely in metro Detroit, with Detroit actors and geared to a Detroit audience to be released in theaters. "Stick It in Detroit" opens Friday only in metro Detroit.

Local filmmaker Robert Phelps said that for the past seven years, he has sacrificed everything he had to make the movie that highlights the positive things about the city that he knows, loves and lives in.

"I am very proud of my city. It is a beautiful city full of amazing people. I'm sick of how it's portrayed in movies, so I wanted to make a film that the people of Detroit can identify with, relate to and be proud of. Most importantly, I wanted to make a movie in which Detroiters can forget about their problems and just laugh for 90 minutes straight," said Phelps.

"We show this group of friends living a slice of life in Detroit hanging out, going to the bars and doing their thing," said Phelps.

Writers and cast members from "Saturday Night Live," "30 Rock" and "Rescue Me" contributed to the hilarious in-your-face comedy.

"Stick It In Detroit" opens Friday and will only be played at MJR Theaters: Waterford Cinema 16, Marketplace Sterling Heights Cinema 20 and Southgate Cinema 20 until Thursday.

Phelps has started an online campaign to get the movie to be played in more theatres in the metro Detroit area. To sign the online petition, visit www.stickitindetroit.com.
