Woman Robbed, Beaten, Dragged

Woman Attacked After Leaving Taylor Store

POSTED: Friday, November 6, 2009
UPDATED: 7:56 pm EST November 6, 2009

Police said a 68-year-old woman was attacked by two men after leaving the Seaway Marketplace in Taylor around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

One man waited for Cynthia Pacheco to leave the store, then grabbed her purse after she walked by, police said.

Police said when Pacheco fought back, another man attacked her.

Pacheco held on to her purse as the men tried pulling it into their car and Pacheco's arm was slammed into the door, police said.

She was dragged a short distance, but was eventually able to free herself from the car.

"I was in complete shock when I heard this," said Rabih Lakkis, Pacheco's grandson.

Pacheco suffered a heart attack during the ordeal.

"How can you do this to an old woman? You hit her in the face. You cause her to have a heart attack, just to take her purse, which she had relatively nothing in. This is completely horrible," Lakkis said.

Police are still looking for the men responsible.

One of the attackers could be seen on the store's surveillance camera.

"Catching these guys will make us feel a lot better, but all of our prayers are obviously with my mom," said Leslie Lakkis, Pacheco's daughter. "I think they're local guys. I think somebody out there must know something, must know who they are."

Pacheco is now being treated at the hospital.

"I'm very angry. It's upsetting to see something like this," said Taylor police Commander Don Helvey. "She could have been killed."

Anyone with information is asked to call Taylor police.
