DETROIT -- A local man's poker face may help him win $8.5 million in cash Monday at the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas.
Joe Cada, 21, of Shelby Township and Maryland's Darvin Moon, a 46-year-old logger, are the last men standing and will compete for the grand prize, starting at 10 p.m. Tuesday.
If Cada wins, he will be the youngest WSOP champion ever. Last year's winner was 22-year-old Peter Eastgate.
Cada's journey began on July 15 when he earned a spot at the final table of the WSOP Main Event. He has outlasted 6,494 players and has guaranteed himself at least $5,182,601, as the second place winner.
After a marathon session Saturday and early Sunday, Cada will enter the final table with nearly 136 million chips to Moon's nearly 59 million.
ESPN's extensive coverage of the 2009 WSOP Main Event Final Table will begin Tuesday at 9 p.m.
Cada is a risk taker, buying his first home at 19-years-old and dropping out of classes at Macomb Community College to pursue a career as a professional poker player.
Cada's mother, who works at a casino in Detroit, said she tried to dissuade her son, who the World Series of Poker is calling a "poker phenom," to not play poke for a living.
