Officials expect the cuts to save $18 million.
Angry residents packed the board meeting Monday protesting the decision.
“This is on your laps, board members. How are you going to fix this? Not on the students’ backs. It needs to be on your backs,” said Felicia Redinjer, a teacher at the district.
“Mr. Whiston, it is my opinion that you have created one big genuine mess,” said school secretary Nancy Wright to Dearborn Schools superintendent Brian Whiston.
“Did I want to make cuts today? No, but I had no choice,” said Whiston.
Parents and school leaders plan to join hundreds of people around the state Tuesday to protest outside the state Capitol in Lansing.
