DETROIT -- Mayor Dave Bing will join community leaders in a discussion about Detroit's poor high school graduation rate and preventing youth violence through conflict resolution.
The "Boys to Men: Youth Thrust into Manhood" forum runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Wayne County Community College District's downtown campus.
Other speakers will include Deputy Police Chief James Tolbert and Derrick Coleman.
Coleman is a graduate of Detroit Northern High School, was a basketball standout at Syracuse University and had a successful career in the NBA.
He recently was named commissioner of athletics for Detroit Public Schools.
District records show fewer than six of 10 high school seniors graduated in 2008, while the dropout rate was just over 27 percent.
