DETROIT -- The attempted abduction of a schoolgirl on Detroit's East Side Friday morning has parents on high alert.
A teenage girl told police that she was standing at the bus stop on Chalmers Road and East Warren Avenue before school when two men in a green vehicle approached her.
"A green car pulled up on me and they were saying, 'Come here, come here and get in the car' and stuff, and I said, 'No,' and I guess they got mad and pulled up in an alley behind me, and then a man with ski masks and gloves got out," said Chante-Nique Whitfield as she recounted the incident.
The ninth grade student said she took off running and went to the nearest gas station to call her mom.
Whitefield's mother Monque Martin told Local 4 that she just can't bear to think of what could have happened.
"It's scary to think what their intentions were. Were they going to just rape her and leave her there?" said Martin.
Whitfield described the men as black. The first man was about 6 foot 5 inches tall, about 200 pounds and he had on a ski mask, a black vest coat, black hooded sweatshirt and black gloves.
"I couldn't really see his face because he had a ski mask on," said Whitfield. "He was real tall and had on all black."
The second man was described only as wearing a black coat with red stripes.
Police said the men may have been in a green Ford Expedition.
Martin added that the men must have been up to no good with masks and gloves on.
Police have stepped up patrols in the area, but they are asking anyone who may have information in the case to call the Detroit Police Department.
