DETROIT -- The only Cadillac dealer in the city of Detroit is closing its doors.
Dalgleish Cadillac, located at 6160 Cass Ave., was founded in 1922 and has been family owned since.
The owner, Doug Dalgleish, was notified by General Motors they would be one of the dealers that had to close as part of their restructuring program.
More than 50 workers who will lose their jobs held a closing party that resembled a wake.
On Friday, employees came to pay their respects and eat cake that resembled a headstone.
"It's kind of rough," said retired Dalgleish employee Dick Wasmundt. "You work with these people everyday and you spend most of your time together here. It's like family, it's like losing a family."
The dealership stopped selling cars a month ago, but it will continue to service vehicles for several more months.
Dalgleish, 81, said the dealership, which was started by his father, is so ingrained in his life. He has grown up, raised his family, employed seven children and grandkids and another 50 employees at the dealership over the years.
"This will be the first day I haven't worked in the auto industry since I was literally a kid -- the first day ever!" said Dalgleish.
Keith Dalgleish said he had been counting on the dealership for his retirement.
"It's been like a death," said Keith Dalgleish. "The anger has been very difficult to get over. I think after today, getting this behind us is going to help a lot."
