DETROIT -- Support the Old Newsboys’ Goodfellow Fund of Detroit!

Started in December 1914 by a group of metro Detroit businessmen, the organization sells newspapers to raise money to purchase Christmas presents underprivileged children.

The organization’s fundraising goal for 2009 is $1.4 million -- with the expectation to distribute 36,000 packages to children in Detroit, Highland Park, Hamtramck and River Rouge.

The Goodfellows also sponsor a shoe program to provide shoes for kids who need them. These children receive vouchers for a complimentary pair of shoes at any Detroit area Mr. Alan’s Stores.
