STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. -- Before Monday's assembly at Walsh Elementary School in Sterling Heights to open a time capsule buried by the class of 1989, the first obstacle was to remember where it was buried.
Luckily there are a few teachers who are still on staff.
"I have been working here since '88. I knew where it was," said one teacher. Another teacher joked, "but she doesn't always remember her name."
The students uncovered the 20-year-old time capsule -- a plain white five-gallon plastic bucket that once held floor wax to find items such as a yearbook, a Pizza Hut flier, McDonald's burger wrappers and newspapers.
The current Walsh Elementary class said life is all about technology now. The children said they will put a lot of electronics in the time capsule for the class of 2029 to see.
"I would put an iPod because I like lots of music," said one student.
The class put in a digital camera and a CD with pictures of the students and staff and a jump drive containing similar images.
Another student said she will put in a cell phone because she is curious to see what the cell phones of the future will look like.
The children's imaginations ran wild when they were asked what they thought the children of the 2029 class would put in.
"Speed shoes that has a keyboard built into it. You type in where you want to go, then you hit go and take one step and it transports you there," said one bright-eyed student.
The class buried the old time capsule alongside the new capsule for future generations to uncover.
