A horse that nearly lost her life after getting tangled in barbed wire is being given a special gift to get her up and running again.

A hop and a pivot is the only way Angel can move around. Her owner, Denette Preston, said she was found severely injured after getting wrapped up in barbed wire a few months ago in Pennsylvania. Preston said her previous owner didn't want to put her down, but couldn't keep her.

"The leg started to turn black and they gave her to some Amish who said that they would take care of her. They preceded to cut her leg off," Preston said.

Preston said she heard about the horse and decided to take her in.

"I thought, even if I bring her back here and things aren't going well and I have to put her down here, as least I know I tried," she said.

Comfort Prosthetics and Orthotics in Mount Clemens heard about Angel and stepped up to make her a one-of-a-kind prosthetic limb.

"You can tell she's just trying. We're holding her in her casting and she's leaning all over the place, " said Gordon Maniere, of Comfort Prosthetics and Orthotics.

The limb is expected to be put onto Angel by the end of this week, just in time for her first birthday on Saturday.

"She's going to be running and that's what I want. That's what I want for her, it's my goal," Preston said.

Preston said after Angel is healed, she wants to use Angel as an example for disabled children.

"If she can inspire somebody, then she's done her job," she said.

Preston said as Angel grows, she'll need more limbs, something she's asking the community to help fund.

Each limb costs about $5,000.

Donations to Angel's prosthetic limb fund can be sent to:
