ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- A fight between two high school students Wednesday sends one to the hospital and leaves another one facing possible criminal charges.
Watch:
2 Canton HS Students Involved In FightCanton police said officers responded to Canton High School just after 1 p.m., where they confronted the two 14-year-old boys involved in the fight.
Police have not released the names of the two freshman students, but Kevin Fuller told Local 4 his son, Jacob, was the student injured in the fight.
Jacob Fuller is recovering from a shattered pelvis in Mott's Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor.
"It's very heartbreaking. It's something that should never have occurred," Kevin Fuller said.
The father said the fight took place behind the cafeteria during a break between classes. He said the other 14-year-old boy sucker punched his son from behind, then beat him while he was on the ground.
Jacob Fuller is heavily medicated, has undergone surgery and is scheduled for more. His father said he has a long road of rehabilitation ahead of him.
"The doctors said he'll be able to walk, not immediately, wheelchairs will be needed," Kevin Fuller said.
Police said they are still investigating and have cited the alleged 14-year-old aggressor for assault, but no charges have been issued yet.
A representative for the school district said the 14-year-old has been given a four-day suspension from school but further disciplinary actions will be determined after the police conclude their investigation.
Kevin Fuller said he wants the district to take the fight seriously and send a message to the other students.
"You can argue that boys will be boys, they're going to fight. But that's not an argument I'll accept," he said.
Kevin Fuller said he'll be asking the district to assign his son to another high school once he's released from the hospital.
