23-year-old arrested in Dearborn bicycle theft, assault

DEARBORN, Mich. – A 23-year-old man was arrested after he pushed a neighbor who caught him stealing a bicycle, policesaid.

Hosam Al-Hussain is charged with felony burglary, larceny, and assault and battery.

A Dearborn woman noticed a man trying to steal a bicycle from her backyard in the area of Hubbard Street and Greenfield Road on Wednesday, according to police. The resident confronted the man and was pushed to the ground.

The woman called authorities, and officers found Al-Hussain riding a pink bicycle in the area. Police said he matched the description given by the resident.

Officers watched as Al-Hussain broke into a garage near Greenfield Toad and Paul Street, according to police. He was taken into custody.

“Thanks to the brave actions of this Dearborn resident and the speedy response by officers, this dangerous subject was located and taken off the streets,” Dearborn police Chief Ronald Haddad said. “This is a prime example of our community assisting the police department making the City of Dearborn a safer place.”

Al-Hussain was arraigned before Judge William Hultgren and was issued a $900 bond.
