Authorities Find Nothing In Hoffa Dig
Teamsters Boss Disappeared In 1975; Authorities Skeptical Of Tip
A tip from a convicted killer about Jimmy Hoffa hasn't turned up
anything.
Authorities dug under a backyard aboveground pool in Hampton
Township, Mich., looking for a briefcase that the prisoner said
held a syringe and possible evidence that the Teamsters leader was
injected with drugs or poison.
Earlier, Oakland County prosecutor David Gorcyca said county authorities were acting on a search warrant obtained Tuesday.
County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said authorities were acting on information from a prisoner related to the Hoffa case. Bouchard said authorities were skeptical but felt they needed to check it out.
In March of 2002, the head of the FBI's bureau in Detroit said that no federal charges will be filed in connection with Hoffa's disappearance.
Hoffa disappeared on the afternoon of July 30, 1975, after leaving Machus Red Fox Restaurant in Bloomfield Township, Mich., for a meeting with two mafia members. Investigators believe that Hoffa was picked up outside the restaurant and killed.
FBI scientists have used DNA to assist in their investigation into Hoffa's disappearance.
Hair that was taken from Hoffa's brush matched with that of a strand found in the car driven by his friend Charles O'Brien on the last day Hoffa was seen alive.
O'Brien has maintained Hoffa was never in the car and has repeatedly denied any role in Hoffa's disappearance.
