Massive Structure Fire Burns In Ann Arbor
Fire Officials Say Blaze Could Burn For Several Days
Officials cordoned off an entire city block about a half-mile west of downtown Thursday night for the fire that covered four abandoned buildings set to be demolished. The fire started around 7:30 p.m. and continued to burn all night, Local 4 reported.
All seven companies from the Ann Arbor Fire Department were on the scene of the massive blaze.
Smoke from the fire could be seen up to 30 miles away at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
The buildings were once home to local artists, but they were recently forced out to make room for a new YMCA, Local 4 reported.
Assistant Fire Chief Michael Skrypec said the fire originated where the building is being torn down.
Firefighters believe debris piled up in the building and could keep the fire burning for days.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
