DETROIT -- A Detroit mother is seeking the public's help in locating her 7-year-old daughter who reportedly didn't come home from school Tuesday.
Teachers at Dawson Elementary School said Lonique Clinkscales was picked up by her mother's ex-boyfriend, Lonnie Jones, Tuesday afternoon, Local 4 reported. The pair has not been seen since.
Jones reportedly picks up Lonique from school daily, but for some reason used his cousin's car on Tuesday, the station reported. Jones's cousin said she did not give him permission to use her car and it is reportedly stolen.
The girl was staying with a family friend on Plainview Street while her mother was looking for a permanent place to live, the station reported. Her mother, Terry Clinkscales, said she just wants her daughter returned safely.
"I really don't think that he would hurt her," Clinkscales said about Jones.
Lonique was last seen wearing her school uniform consisting of a navy blue skort and a white shirt. She was also wearing K-Swiss tennis shoes and glasses. She is described as 4 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 125 pounds.
The car Jones was reportedly driving is a dark-green 1994 Dodge Shadow.
Anyone with information should contact Detroit police at (313) 596-5600.
Detroit police said an
Amber Alert has not been issued because it is a nationwide-alert system and they believe the girl is still in the area. They said they are relying on local media to assist in locating Lonique.
