$2,500 offered for info on dogs tied to tree, left to die in woods

DETROIT – The Michigan Humane Society and Ingham Animal Control are offering a combined $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of those responsible for tying of two dogs to a tree and leaving them to die in the woods.

The dogs were tied to a tree near the 500-600 block of East Dexter Trail within the Hewes Lake DNR Reserve near Dansville, Michigan. A resident reported finding the dogs on Monday after making the discovery the day before.

Officials estimate that the two dogs had been tied to the tree for two months before the remains were found. The dogs were left without water or food and tethered to the tree with a short leash.

"The Michigan Humane Society is committed to working alongside Ingham County Animal Control to ensure the individuals responsible for this horrible and senseless act are held accountable for their actions," said Matthew Pepper, President and CEO of the MHS. "Animal Cruelty isn't limited to one city, one county, or one community...To often violence is targeted at animals and pets and we must be the voice for these victims."
